Rolling Star

Founded in 1871, the Hall farm is one of Marion’s earliest homesteads, and has been in the family for 7 generations. Homesteader Sarah McElroy Hall, somehow found time to create the Rolling Star quilt which inspired this block. The family cherishes the quilt, as well as the dress, and photograph of Sarah in the dress, scraps from which make up her quilt. The family had the dress with them when we hung the quilt block, and I have to say that Sarah must have been a marvelous needlewoman. The dress is stitched by hand and is wonderfully made, even though they said it was an “everyday” dress.

The barn is located at 5913 E. 20 Mile Rd., Marion, MI
